Collette May lives in Lightwater, Surrey and runs her own dog training school ‘Lead and Listen’ which offers gundog training classes, puppy classes and 1:1’s. She is a full member of the Pet Professional Guild and the Institute of Modern Dog Trainer’s. She has 3 working Labradors called Benji, Angus and Grace. Collette competes in working tests during the summer months with her dogs and takes them picking up throughout the winter months. She has achieved numerous awards with her dogs in gundog working tests and is also starting to get results in her new venture of field trials. She is proud to have achieved this success using only positive reinforcement methods of training. She believes that training should always be fun and enjoyable for both the dog and handler, regardless of the end goal. Using kind methods will help to build a strong relationship which will become essential when competing or working.
Collette attends dog behaviour and training seminars and conferences on a regular basis and introduces these new ideas into her own style of gundog training. Taking ideas from the world of agility, obedience and other dog sports has helped her solve many gundog training issues by thinking outside of the box, especially when punishment is not an option for her.
